Red Wharf Bay Vineyard is an independent micro-vineyard situated in the Traeth Coch Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Some vines were planted in 2010 but most, planted in the spring of 2017, are still maturing. The tour starts in the vineyard with an explanation as to how (and how not to!) produce grapes for wine, taking you from the planting of the vines through the three years until hopefully you reap your first harvest, and then the annual cycle thereafter. I’ll describe my successes and follies - lots of those in Anglesey and Spain - as I go about this complex profession in my own unique way.

We’ll then talk about the Spanish connection - finding partners there, problems with the Common Agricultural Policy, the story of the ceramics of “The Potters Village” near Córdoba, of the town that makes leather handbags for many of the world’s top fashion houses, of olive oil from 100 year old trees (which you can taste if you wish) and of the production of our very special wine blended from Spanish and UK grapes (which you definitely get to taste, along with two other wines).

The tasting is accompanied by our splendid “Anglesey Tapas”, with time to enjoy these and your wine in our wine garden overlooking the vineyard and Red Wharf Bay

The Tour costs £20 per head for adults and £12 for under 18s not tasting wine.

(But feel free to bring small children, babies, dogs, goldfish, etc. free of charge if it helps you plan your day - please mention this when you book)

Vineyard Tour and Wine Tasting

Important Information

1. You will taste three wines, one made from the Rondo grape growing in the field, one made from the grapes I have bought in from Spain - and then finally our unique blend of the two - our signature Crooked Field Red. Currently we are only have red wine but this will change when our first white is available in September.

2. Please book a place on a tour before you set out. We are only a small operation and If you simply turn up without making any arrangements in advance I’m afraid you will probably find the vineyard is closed.

3. You need to be reasonably mobile to tour the vineyard, there are slopes and uneven ground. You will also need outdoor shoes and clothing.

4. Unless by arrangement, tours will be of a maximum of twelve people

5. Challenge 25: We have adopted the Challenge 25 scheme, which means that we will ask for ID from anybody who looks under 25 before we will offer them wine. The law states that teenagers aged 16 and 17 can legally drink wine on our premises whilst eating and seated in a parental group.

Enjoy a walk to the vineyard through this stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as part of your day out.

Please ask us for directions and maps for 2 mile, 4 mile and 7 mile walks - we are in the process of producing these and they will be available online soon.
